how to blur the background of an image

1. use the quick selection tool to select the part of the image you DO NOT want blurred
2. on the top toolbar select SELECT, then INVERSE. this will reverse your selection
3. right click on the selected area and click LAYER VIA COPY
4. click FILTER on the top toll bar go to BLUR and select either Lens blur or Gaussian Blur. 
5. change the intensity of your blur by changing the radius




Colour Selection

1. select your whole image using the marquee tool.
2. using the keyboard cut your image (CTRL X)
2. then paste your image twice (CTRL V)
4. this will create 2 new layers of your image
5. Select LAYER from the top toolbar, then NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER, then GRADIENT MAP
6. your image should turn black and white. if it does not click on the bar on the right hand tool bar and select black and white 
7. select the eraser tool and start colouring the part of your image you want to be colour

Lighting


1. Select FILTER from the top toolbar, then RENDER, then LIGHTING EFFECTS
2. in here you can change the lighting style
